Designing Impossible Things (Nix Davies - South Africa)

A limitless imagination matched with agile design is incredibly powerful in terms of igniting passion; instigating wonder; creative problem solving; shifting perspectives and designing the lives we want to live

Nix Davies will host an intense, practical workshop that will plummet you into a process that will give you the experience of creating something from nothing. It will reveal why it is important to step into the unknown and why awkwardness and self doubt are necessary companions in designing the impossible. It will show how learning is boundless when passion is ignited. The joy and wonder that comes from these experiences of ignited passion is the fuel that feeds the desire to embark on outrageous designs. This is essential to lift a project to a level not previously conceived of. Through collaboration that is ignited on passion, truth and love is exponential in its ability to problem solve and create; here, anything is possible.

ix Davies is a collaborative, conceptual artist that explores possibilities that arise from consciously stepping into and existing in the unknown. She creates and produces large-scale experiential spaces, events and artworks that ordinarily are impossible to create alone. Nix embarks on ‘life installations’ that showcase the emerging and developing of concepts along an ordinarily unknown journey. It is while living and navigating these spaces that she breathes ideas to life. These are her wonderings, her investigations; personal illuminations of intriguing lines or pockets of thought that will eventually lead to a full constellation of concept. Relinquishing the necessity to know unravels exponential opportunity for anything to emerge and an abundance of choices to be made. This becomes the conscious mapping of concepts and ultimately, life, as consequences to choice-of-reaction determines a variation of life path in relation to time. Nix Davies was born in Zimbabwe, where she grew up and went to school. She studied Fine Art at Rhodes University, Grahamstown, South Africa. Nix ran a collaborative, changing, working space called Let There Be Light in Woodstock, Cape Town, for four years at the Woodstock Industrial Centre and Side Street Studios. Nix has recently moved to a farm outside Citrusdal in the Western Cape, South Africa, which has given her the space to work on larger landscape artworks such as Howl from Your Heart, Hexagon Ceremonial Space, X Here and Dream Yggdrasil.
